Local Statistics
*These are reports or incidents we know about, but may not be all inclusive for the entire county! The vast majority of sexual assaults go unreported. These statistics are for Kankakee County.
In 2006 there were 178 reports/incidents of sexual assault or sexual abuse.
Victims
- 79% of victims were under the age of 18.
- Victim age range: 1 year old to 60 years old.
- Of the 178 reports, 149 victims were female and 19 were male.
- 10 cases had no named victim, such as child pornography, public indecency, or internet sting, etc.
- In 92% of those cases, the victim knew the offender. The offender was a stranger in only 14 cases.
Offenders:
- Of the 178 reports, 166 offenders were male and 12 offenders were female.
- Offender age range: 8 years old to 63 years old.
- There were 27 juvenile offenders.
Prosecution:
- 68 cases were charged in 2006, but were not necessarily the same cases that were reported in 2006.
- 76 cases had an outcome in the court system, but were not necessarily the same cases reported in 2006.
- 63 were found guilty
- 2 were found not guilty
- 9 were dismissed
- 2 ended in mistrials
- 28 were sentenced to prison ranging from 2 – 36 years
